Highlights

Historic premiership: On 29 November the Riksdag elected Magdalena Andersson as Prime Minister — Sweden's first woman in the role. Her initial election on 24 November collapsed within hours when the Green Party withdrew over a budget defeat.
Löfven ousted in confidence vote: On 21 June, Stefan Löfven became the first Swedish PM to lose a formal vote of no confidence, triggered by a dispute over housing market reforms. He resigned the party leadership and premiership in August.
Death of Lars Vilks: Controversial artist Lars Vilks, subject of longstanding death threats over his Mohammed cartoons, died in a car crash on 3 October along with his two police bodyguards.
